Kara Cannon is a P&L leader with deep marketing, sales, and operations skills. She has over 30 years of experience in the life sciences industry at Enzo Biochem, Pall Corporation, and Dynal Corporation. Ms. Cannon’s technical expertise and ability to connect international teams have delivered powerful results throughout her career.
Currently, Ms. Cannon is the Chief Executive Officer of Enzo Biochem (NYSE: ENZ), a publicly traded life sciences company with global operations, moving recently from the Chief Operating Officer role (2022 to 2023). She was pivotal in the recent sale of the clinical laboratory division’s assets to LabCorp for $113 million. The transaction doubled Enzo Biochem’s enterprise value and positioned the company to focus on its life sciences product business with higher growth potential.
Previously, she was the Chief Commercial Officer of Enzo Biochem (2017-2022). Ms. Cannon realigned the international business to efficiently develop and commercialize technical products for use in the diagnostics, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology industries. She led the clinical laboratory division through the pandemic with uninterrupted operations, delivering desperately needed COVID testing products and services to the market. Ms. Cannon joined Enzo Biochem in 2010 as the Head of Global Commercial Operations for the $30 million Life Sciences Division (2010-2017).
After earning a Bachelor’s degree in biology from Franklin and Marshall College, Ms. Cannon started her career at Dynal Corporation (1990-2000), joining this start-up business as it launched DynaBeads® in the US market. This foundational experience exposed her to myriad corporate disciplines, including marketing, sales, operations, product development, and technical support.
She held progressive commercial roles at Pall Corporation (2000-2010), where she led global marketing and the diagnostics and biotechnology segments. Her notable contributions include leading a corporate pricing initiative that delivered $100 million in profit growth over five years and establishing a greenfield technical operations site in India.
Ms. Cannon is passionate about fostering talent for the future, serves on the Board of Directors for Farmingdale State College, and is an advisor to the School of Health Professions at the New York Institute of Technology. Additionally, she is a founding member of a New York-based mentoring program for life sciences entrepreneurs affiliated with Stonybrook University. Ms. Cannon is dedicated to using her expertise to build the next generation of life sciences leaders.
She also served on the New York Clinical Laboratory Association (2020 to 2023) board, a non- profit industry trade association representing clinical labs of all sizes licensed to operate in New York State.
Ms. Cannon’s career achievements have been repeatedly recognized. She was three times recognized as one of the Top 50 Long Island Most Influential Business Women (2019, 2021, 2022). She was also listed as one of the Top 25 Women Leaders in Consumer Health Tech (2022).
