SPU OPTICS INC (SPU) is an early-stage high tech company with the SpectroChip technology that was developed in Taiwan by Professor Kevin Ko for nearly 20-year endeavor. Professor Ko is a graduate of SUNY Stony Brook and worked at Brookhaven National Laboratory before he turned to Taiwan and currently he is a professor at Taiwan National University of Science and Technology. The SpectroChip technology uses proprietary lithography to create the optical structure of a spectrometer on a fingernail-sized silicon chip. This is a breakthrough in the miniaturization of conventional spectrophotometer, providing wafer-based mass production capability to significantly reduce the cost. This technology brings the next generation high performance spectrometer-on-chip modules that can be used as core optical components to various optical instruments. The current SpectroChip/SPU modules that we manufacture covers wide spectral range from 300nm-1000nm with 5 nm resolution cross the whole spectrum. Our innovation will support various applications in various industries, including environmental monitoring, process analysis for biotech and pharmaceutical industries, point-of-care testing, etc..
